Beyond the Algorithm: Why Better Answers Still Win

Written by Brendan Malone | Aug 7, 2026

In our latest video, Brendan Malone discusses the large presence and growth of AI within the financial service industry.

Greenrock's philosophy centers on independent research and disciplined investment management rather than following the crowd. As AI makes information more accessible and investment opinions more uniform, advisors who can question consensus and deliver thoughtful, evidence-based solutions may provide greater value to their clients than ever before.

As AI becomes the default source for research and information, advisors risk relying on the same data, the same models, and ultimately arriving at the same conclusions. In a world where everyone has access to identical information, independent thinking becomes increasingly valuable. According to Malone, the firms that will stand out in the future won't simply have the best technology—they'll have the ability to provide better insights.

Much like the internet boom of the late 1990s, many AI companies have experienced dramatic increases in valuation. History reminds us, however, that even great companies can produce disappointing returns if investors pay too much for future expectations. The lesson is that disciplined investing requires looking beyond market enthusiasm and focusing on long-term value.

With bond yields offering limited return potential for much of the past decade, we shifted toward globally diversified, multi-asset portfolios designed to target specific levels of volatility while seeking stronger risk-adjusted returns.

The future of advisory services may indeed be powered by AI, but success will still belong to firms that combine technology with independent judgment, sound investment principles, and the confidence to think differently.
